A journalist observes life in the far north.
Alec awoke early this morning to go see Lightning and to move him from the emergency vet to our clinic. I know that Scott, our veterinarian, will be heartbroken. He has worked on Lightning a lot and removed some of Lightning’s rotting teeth just a couple of months ago. The last time that Scott saw my dog, Monique, he asked about Lightning.
Alec is struggling with this decision to keep Lightning alive. Last night, I asked him whether he was sure that he is helping Lightning and he didn’t answer. He spent most of the evening with his head in his hands and went to bed early. Warm brownies couldn’t even coax him out of bed.
