Murphy Dome Diaries

A journalist observes life in the far north.

Twelve step program

Lucky has been a regular at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings lately, accompanied by The Bottle Washing Fairy, who discovered years ago that she was drinking wine every day whether she wanted to or not. So she put an end to it, enlisting AA for help.

Six months old and my girl already has her own life. It’s easy to imagine Lucky on The Bottle Washing Fairy’s lap in a sea of folding chairs. Maybe there’s a lectern at the front of the room where people give their testimonials.

The Bottle Washing Fairy says that Lucky weighs in, babbling during the testimonials sometimes. One of the AA goers reportedly said: “It’s nice to see someone so enthusiastic about sobriety.”

I can’t wait until my girl reaches an age when she can tell me about her adventures.
