The weather has improved on Denali today, and the climbers of Team II, who are at 11,200 feet, are going to retrieve some gear down low and then rest this afternoon.
Alec said yesterday was brutal. The work of the day went on for 14 hours in 20-to-30-below temperatures due to wind chill. There was no visibility and they relied on the GPS to lead them. Today, Alec could see the Knik Arm near Anchorage. I could hear the joy in his voice.
Team I is having some trouble and two climbers have had to withdrawal, Alec said. One member of Team II is having a bit of trouble. Chris, the businessman from Texas, is temporarily blinded in one eye after using some frozen eye drops.
The climbers were standing near Alec as we spoke and they sent their love to family and friends.
