A journalist observes life in the far north.
The Snow Dogs are re-grouping at 14,000 foot camp, where they arrived this afternoon, and Al is no longer pessimistic about summiting Denali. At least one climber, Ramin, will likely leave the expedition for medical reasons.
Al said the team will remain at 14,000 feet over the weekend due to a storm coming with strong winds. They may try to return to high camp on Monday.
The climb down was harrowing and two of the Snow Dogs, Ramin and Shahid, slipped and had to self arrest to keep from plummeting off of the mountain, Al said.
I am still on a high after Al’s marriage proposal earlier today.
