A journalist observes life in the far north.
My informant at the Carlson Center told me that Elton John enjoyed playing in such an “intimate” venue—the arena seats 6,500 people—on Thursday. The performer played in Anchorage twice and Fairbanks once, reportedly saying he enjoyed playing here more than in Anchorage. I guess that means he didn’t mind the protesters, religious fanatics who don’t like him because he is gay, who marched outside the show.
My informant said he worked 65 hours last week putting together the concert, and his girlfriend promptly broke up with him. Hmmmmmm. Maybe he forgot to hook her up with a free ticket. I regret that I skipped the show. Tickets were so expensive I would have had to tap into my 401k to pay for it.
