A journalist observes life in the far north.
My father belongs to the South Milwaukee Yacht Club. I know. It sounds hoity-toity. Really it’s middle class and family oriented. Men drink beer and wear T-shirts and jeans. Woman are in shorts and pony tails. Boys looking like hoodlums fish off of the pier. I like it because the bathrooms are cleaner than in my home. Anyway, it’s a place to park his boat, a 26-foot cabin cruiser that we took out on Lake Michigan today, touring downtown Milwaukee by way of the Milwaukee River. It was definitely a highlight of my vacation, which ends Wednesday.
