A journalist observes life in the far north.
A letter came in the mail for Alec from an old fishing buddy. The postmark is from Honolulu, Hawaii. In sloppy right-slanted cursive writing, the letter says “Don’t know if you are the right Alex Turner or not. I am looking to make contact with Alex Turner, who was my shipmate on the F/V Beauty Bay in 1995. If it is, please contact me in Hawaii. Sincerely, Rex Goatcher.”
He provided an address, phone number, cell phone number and e-mail address. Alec replied by e-mail. I Googled Mr. Goatcher and nothing but an old Anchorage Daily News story about the Exxon Valdez oil spill comes up.
I wonder what’s on his mind.
