Murphy Dome Diaries

A journalist observes life in the far north.

Still raining; Big Daddy is home

Flooding remains the top story in Fairbanks. People are fleeing their water-logged homes and emergency managers are working around-the-clock. The mayor declared a disaster, the second this year. The first came due to fuel prices. Alaskans pay some of the highest prices in the nation. I wonder how many disasters a place can claim? Rain continues to dominate the weather forecast. One of our three hens has stopped laying eggs, presumably due to the temperatures in the 40s and the soggy hen house.

Big Al came home early Friday morning. I was on the toilet peeing, with the bathroom door wide open, when I heard him creeping up the stairs. I thought, “Oh great, I haven’t seen him in a week and now he is going to catch me on the toilet. How romantic.” The belt buckle was one of the gifts he brought me.

    Yay Daddy is home!
Give him a hug from us please.
    Your eggs are impressive.
Colton said you are an excellent cook and told me about Moose quiche, which Grammy aka BWF said is quite good too.
So glad you are all safe on the Dome and out of harm’s way.
Love to you, precious Jade and my stinky old little bro,

    The buckle is most excellent!

Still looking for one as impressive with Alaska on it.
